 जरा विचार करें कि क्या हम कुछ पुरानी आदतों को वापस अपना सकते हैं। जिससे हमारे जीवन से पॉलिथीन थोड़ा कम हो जाएइस नवरात्रि करें ये 9 काम। No Plastic Navratri

No Plastic Navratri.

111 Doable Steps to a Plastic-Free Life. Thinking to live a life with less to no plastic footprint? Wondering how to do it or at least get started? Here’s a list of steps we can take to at least get started.

The list is not meant to be overwhelming but simply to show what is possible. Choose a few that seem doable and that will make the most impact. No one can do it all at once. But we can all get started! I am listing them in a way that will make it easy for everyone to remember.

111 Doable Steps

But there is a request from my side before you start following. Do not throw the things that you already own and can be reused. Throwing them out of your house will not solve the problem anyway. Reuse them till they last. Give priority to stop buying new.

Perk: Entrepreneurs can grab some ideas from this list for an eco friendly business startup.

Plastic debris affect nearly 700 species worldwide through entanglement and ingestion, alters natural biological and chemical processes, provides a means for the introduction of toxins into the food web.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM:

Scientific studies indicate that an emerging threat faces our freshwater and marine ecosystems: Plastic pollution. Since plastics are cheap, versatile and strong Deliver significant societal benefits It comes as no surprise that plastic production has increased exponentially since the 1960’s. If current practices continue as usual, by 2025 there could be 1 ton of plastic for every 3 tons of fish in the ocean.

That means we are talking about just 6 years in the future.

And calculating the years was shocking to me. I have to do something at my level. We should all do something. We can all take some small steps. Every little step will be of much significance.

Plastics consist of a variety of synthetic organic polymers and additives, giving each plastic product its unique properties. Plastic is generally split into two categories: micro and macro plastics. Microplastics are smaller than 5mm, found throughout the water column and comprise 95% of the plastics in the ocean. Not readily seen, they receive less attention than macroplastics, which are visible pieces of debris, larger than 5mm, and usually found on surface water or coastal beaches.

Starting small but effectively. Changing lifestyle for bigger change.

If you are with me, in this journey of making little changes in our life styles, then let’s begin.

Changing lifestyle for bigger change.

Let’s start easy: These are the first few changes you can do to your lifestyle. This doesn’t affect your routine nor consumes time, on the other hand, it saves your money and saves our planet from our share of plastic.

Changing lifestyle for bigger change. We can make the difference. Why we HAVE to change our lifestyle and support No plastic movements?

1.  Say NO to plastic bags.

About 365 plastic bags pass through the hands of a single consumer each year. By switching to reusable bags, you can make a huge impact.

Stock up on a variety of bags made from natural materials like cotton and canvas and keep them stocked in a basket by your door, in your car, in your work bag – basically make it so you’re never without a bag in case of a last-minute purchase or errand run.

Changing lifestyle for bigger change. We can make the difference. Why we HAVE to change our lifestyle and support No plastic movements?

2. Stop buying disposable paper towels.

Paper towels are one of those items that most of us find convenient, but are completely unnecessary. If we reduce the number of paper towels used per day, we will save pounds of paper waste each year. Now imagine if you got rid of paper towels completely.

Get yourself a stack of reusable and washable rags to do the dirty work. You can even make your own cleaning rags by cutting up old t-shirts or bath towels that are too stained to wear or use for bathing anymore.

It is a doable step, in our setups? Isn’t it.

If you use paper towels in your bathroom to dry your hands, simply replace it with a hand towel. Easy!

If you use paper towels in your bathroom to dry your hands, simply replace it with a hand towel. Easy!

3. Learn to let your fridge go empty.

Have you ever lost track of a piece of fruit or a vegetable in the back of your jam-packed produce drawer and only discovered it a few weeks later due to the rancid rotting smell? Losing track of the perishable food in our refrigerator is a big contributor to our individual food waste.

Use this trick: don’t buy new food until you’ve eaten almost everything perishable in your fridge. By letting your fridge go nearly bare, you’ll be able to see exactly what you have and won’t lose track of anything. Rather than thinking about what you want to eat and buying food based on that, look at what you currently have and figure out what you can make with it that sounds appetizing.

Less trips to the grocery also means less money spent on food.

4. Skip the plastic straw.

WE use plastic straws which for the most part, are completely unnecessary!

Next time you’re eating at a restaurant, before you order anything, inform your waiter that you’re straw-free table. Or get yourself a reusable bamboo or stainless steel straw if you like to sip from one, or get a cold drink to-go.

Say no to straws.
Say no to straws.

5. Learn to say “no”.

One of the easiest ways is just say “no”.

Say “no” to unnecessary purchases, say “no” to free gifts with purchase that you don’t actually want, say “no” to that piece of plastic-wrapped candy in the snack drawer at work, say “no” to disposable drying towels in the bathroom and shake your hands dry instead.

6. Avoid plastic water bottles and single-use coffee cups.

Getting yourself a reusable water bottle and coffee cup is one of the most simple ways to avoid plastic. Plus making coffee at home and taking it in your cup with you, or filling up a bottle of water for free instead of buying a new bottle each time you’re thirsty, will save you lots of money in the long run.

Getting yourself a reusable water bottle and coffee cup is one of the most simple ways to avoid plastic.

Follow these 6 simple ways, without any extra effort to start contributing towards cleaner Earth.

Reduce plastic pollution. Parenting to change lifestyle.

Reduce plastic pollution. We need positive parenting to reform lifestyle for a bigger change. We are educated and a responsible citizen. I made some rules for myself to reduce my plastic footprint. Not using plastic bags, straws and plastic tumbler were part of my lifestyle for many years. Plastic bottles had been on that list too. But I have failed occasionally. I am trying to give the same habit to my kids. And what better occasion to do the same than now. The whole nation  needs to make changes in lifestyle.

It is high time we make changes in our selves, or we will loose this beautiful planet.

Presently, Indian government is running a campaign to make India plastic-free by 2022 and  has stressed on strengthening plastic waste management and recycling ecosystem in the country.

Indian government is planning to stop single-use-plastic. Single use plastic will not be allowed from 2 October.

The ‘Plastic Waste-Free India’ anthem has been produced by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Smriti Manch (PDUSM), a non-profit organisation which claims to be working on various social and environmental issues.

Plastic free India anthem released in seven languages

This is an innovative way to spread the message.

Let’s become active participants by bringing small changes in our lives.

Greenpeace.org are calling on people around the world to create a “Million Acts of Blue” — actions to push retailers, corporations and businesses to reduce single-use plastic.

According to them it is going to take commitments both large and small to tackle the scale of the current plastic pollution crisis, and we all have a role to play. Every action to reduce single-use plastics sends a message to the industry that it’s time to change. Single-use-plastic products are used for a few seconds but pollute our planet for a lifetime. We can no longer allow that.

How We Can Keep Plastics Out of Our Ocean | National Geographic

We have all seen heartbreaking images of beaches covered with plastic waste and animals’ stomachs full of it. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and frustrated that in .

Every single visit to market makes me confused on what more can I do to reduce the use of plastic from my life and eventually do a little pay back to Earth.

Plastic products are all around us. The people controlling the machine won’t turn it off!

Why me, you and our coming generation?

Practically, some organisations, government body or few groups of volunteers can’t do the work. Every individual should become a part of this effort. Government will not come to our house to make things right. We can get better by making some changes in our mindset and lifestyle.

🌍We believe in a world where the land, sky, oceans, and water are home to an abundance of life. Earth where the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat is free of toxic by-products. “Children need to play, but this doesn’t require toys. They will explore their environment and examine articles that are interesting to them- from pots to pans to blocks.” says Deborah MacNamara, author of “Rest, Play, Grow” a manual for parents.  Before having my son, I was determined!

This means that children can find a lot of things to play with at home. they can play with things like cardboard pieces, pots, pans, blocks and many other things.

Children of different ages can use cardboard boxes, plastic bowls and lids, collections of plastic bottle caps, and other “treasures”.

As children grow, their relationships with toys change. While babies are mostly preoccupied with being around the people they are attached to, they can also be content exploring things with their mouths and hands.

As toddlers, they become more and more interested in the exploration of objects. During this stage, the key is to give them access to open-ended things that foster imagination. If we like to provide actual toys, things like building blocks, nesting cups, dolls or stuffed animals are good options.

children don’t need prescribed minimum number of toys to play . They played with each toy longer, allowing them to focus more and play more creatively. Parents should allow their children to gravitate towards the toys or objects that interest them.

Before having my son, I was determined!

Before having my son, I was determined to have a clean, tidy and organised living room 24×7 unlike the ones I had seen, taken over by toys.

But like all the other things I said, I would never do, it was difficult to avoid, once I was a parent. And I am thankful to God for having such a loving and caring family members. My children have always got all their best toys as gifts.

I have always tried to curtail their collection of toys. As a toddler, he had spent most of his time at home, playing with mixing bowl and measuring cups.

Before having my son, I was determined to have a clean living room 24×7.

As I watched him enjoying and playing with gift boxes and wrappings while ignoring the toys inside, I became curious about how many toys kids actually need. So I decided to do some research. Thanks to Google, I got answers to all my questions.

As a mother, I am putting down all my finding related to toys, parenting, food and everything that a parent need to this blog. This will satisfy your curiosity and save your time.

Safe toys? Safety points to keep in mind while buying toys for your kids.

Safe toys? Safety points to keep in mind while buying toys for your kids. When we buy toys for our kids we keep many things in mind. It can be about the purpose, occasion and need etc. We should also be careful about the safety issues associated with any toy.

When we are shopping for a toy for our kids, we should keep in mind that unsafe toys or unsuitable toys often have the following characteristics:

  1. Do not meet basic safety checks (toys should not chip or emit colors) and do not indicate “suitable for children.” Toy safety issues, safe toys are very important part in selection.
  2. Toys Promote violence, the practice of unhealthy habits, and discrimination on basis of race, culture, gender, etc.
  3. Avoid flying toys and projectile-firing toys
  4. Are inadequate for the intended child and do not respond to their interests, age or tastes
  5. Avoid toys with sharp or rigid points.

Safe toys? Points to keep in mind while shopping for a toy for our kids ( shopping for toys) :

  • Safety first, always.
  • Don’t stress out too much about the educational value of toys for babies and toddlers because all of life is new and educational for the very young.
  • Bright colors and shapes…no small pieces.
  • Easy for little hands to grip or hang onto.
  • Things that encourage movement, crawling, walking, etc.
  • Things that make gentle, musical sounds.
  • A variety of ‘feels’ from soft to hard to cushy to stretchy.
  • And, finally, books, books, books.  It’s never too soon.

As parents, it is important to keep a few things in mind before purchasing toys for toddlers and infants:

  • Safety-Plastic toys mostly have sharp edges which can hurt children. It can be hazardous for them and can be injurious in sensitive parts like eyes. It is always advised to buy wooden material toys. They have curved edges which do not hurt children and even if swallowed will not cause any harm to children.
  • Simple Toys- In this era of digitization, toys are getting more complex and confusing day by day. The golden rule for children is the simpler the toy is, they are more likely to enjoy it. Complex toys can potentially confuse children with too many inputs. So simple, yet challenging is the mantra.
  • Value For Money- With prices for toys going up because of the associated brand value, it is good to see if the toy is really worth the money paid in terms of entertainment and learning for the child.

Keep your kid’s interests in mind, while encouraging him to expand his horizons. Kids learn through play. It’s through play that they’ll develop motor skills, social skills, literacy and math comprehension. You really can’t go wrong, no matter what you choose.

Why do we buy toys for our children? Part 3 of 3. (final decision)

Why do we buy toys for our children? Part 3 of 3. (Points to keep in mind while taking the final decision at the store.)

Why do we buy toys for our children? Part 3 of 3. (Points to keep in mind while taking the final decision at the store.)

Why do we buy toys for our children? As parents, practically, you don’t need a reason to buy toys. But is it the correct way?

Please also read Do children need a room full of toys? Rethink.

No, it is not. We cross by the shop and we buy a toy because our child likes those building blocks or cars.

Do read the part 1, to know the list of  occasions we buy toys.

Do read the part 2, list of mindset while buying the toys.

Part 3 of 3, Points to keep in mind while taking the final decision at the store.

Here we can list the things to keep in mind before paying the bill. As parents, please check:

  • Will this toy help my toddler grow intelligently? I know many parents selecting useful puzzle games, board games like chess, English learner laptop, robot games to help their toddlers grow intelligently.Guiding Puzzle Games :Example: Abacus, Maze Chase, Size Exploration Board & Shape Sorter – This interesting indoor game, help kids use their abilities & get the right shape & order for the toys.
  • Will this toy be serving the purpose or help in the present interests of my child? Parents choose infant and toddler toys based on educational value, child’s interest and also if the toy has an off switch. Educational value will be different for each child. I want to stress that this does not mean academic learning. If a child shows an interest in cooking then a play kitchen would be a good option. If the child is learning to walk then a toy they can push or stand at would be an option.
  • Does the toy serve multiple option?. Try to pick toys that allow for multiple options. A walking toy that has shaped blocks, or a kitchen that has a clock/timer so they start to understand the concept of time.
  • Is the toy safe for the intended child?

Buying specific toys for kids depends on kids interest & toy advantage to the kid growing age. As a parent I would have always decided to buy educational toys & games for my kids which can enhance their learning skills & motivate them to get social as well.Hope these points are of some use to you. Please mention in comments box, if you have any other mindset for buying toys.

Toys*! Why do we buy toys* for our children? Part 2 of 3.

Toys*! Why do we buy toys* for our children? Part 2 of 3. (how do you decide what toys to purchase for your infants and toddlers?)

Why do we buy toys* for our children? As parents, practically, you don’t need a reason to buy a toy. But is it the correct way?

Please also read Do children need a room full of toys? Rethink.

No, it is not. We cross by the shop and we buy a toy because our child likes those building blocks or cars.

Do read the part 1, to know the list of  occasions we buy toys*.

Part 2 of 3

Why do we buy toys for our children?
Here we can list the mindset while buying the toys. As parents, while purchasing toys, these things are to be kept in mind:

Here we can list the mindset of parents, while purchasing toy or games:

  • Purpose: While purchasing or choosing from a collection of toys*, one should always remember the difference between a toy with no objective and a toy serving an objective. An objective oriented toy will stimulate the senses in a child, giving a chance to explore things around. Example: if your child likes cars or teddy bear, making a collection of the same will not stimulate the senses in the child.

  • Value for Money: With prices for many toys being high because of an associated “brand” value, it is wise to see if the toy really is worth the money paid in terms of entertainment or learning for the child. Check if the toy is relevant for an age as well as cultural perspective. Example: the same kind of board games are offered by many companies. If the packaging or the brand name is making the difference in price, please choose wisely.

  • Simple Toys: In the era of digitization, toys are getting more confusing and complex day by day. The golden rule for young children – the simpler it is, the more likely that they will enjoy it. Complex toys could potentially confuse the child by giving too many inputs simultaneously. So, keep it simple yet challenging.

  • Appeal: Fancy super colorful and filled with imagery could hit the eyes initially, but children are likely to just ignore all this after a couple of times of playing with it. Example: Kinder joy, children buy this chocolate for the excitement of getting the tiny attractions in the package, they play with it, for some time. Then it goes to some corner of the toy box. What will excite them, is the challenge. Classic examples are tops like bey-blades & fidget spinners. This catches the fancy of all older children, because they enjoy the challenges that these toys pose. For the younger children, wooden blocks/toys score really high on this factor of appeal.

  • Age Appropriate: Many a time when the toy is bought, it has all the features that an individual is looking for, but somehow it has not taken the child’s fancy fully. Usually the reason for this is that it may not be age appropriate. In the initial years, every phase for a child is critical, and every age group has some milestones to be fulfilled. So if the toy bought for the child is not appropriate to his or her age, he or she will either: (a) get bored fast if the toy is below their age, or (b) they may get irritated if the toy’s complexity is too much for them to handle. It is always wise to match children’s age to the appropriate toys to make their time joyful and interesting.

  • Safety: For obvious reasons safety is the greatest concern. Sometimes a child puts a toy in his or her month to explore and understand more about it. Unaware of any dangers due to sharp corners, the paint used on the toy, they choose to experiment with the toy. Keeping all this in mind it is necessary to look for preferably CE certified ones or the ones you have checked and assured keeping all the above points in mind.

  • Battery Operated Toys: Battery operated toys are made up of typically metal or plastic. These will obviously need periodic battery replacing. This is not environmentally friendly both in terms of the battery as well as the outer metal/ plastic case. Battery operated toys* also tend to take away the manual element in toys which young children need. Pressing buttons to move cars is less preferable to moving the car around manually. They also need a constant supply of batteries to work.

  • Discovery and Exploration: While purchasing a toy, ensure it provides ample opportunities to explore and discover. When children start to discover different ways of playing with the toy, then they learn a lot while playing.

Buying specific toys for kids depends on kids interest & toy advantage to the kid growing age.

As a parent I would have always decided to buy educational toys & games for my kids which can enhance their learning skills & motivate them to get social as well.
